‘Come and See’ Event

1/4/2017

St. Mary’s Convent

25th March 2017

‘Come and See’ Event
‘Come and See’ was an invitation to women aged 18 and over to Come, See and spend a Day with the Lord and us in Catherine’s House here in Handsworth Birmingham.  Ten women including Nicole (Institute Postulant) and Collette (student) responded to this invitation.  Most of the women travelled a distance to attend the Event – Newcastle upon Tyne, Doncaster, Oxford, Gravesend, Otley and Weymouth.
Friday evening’s Holy Hour set the tone for the next day which was the Feast of the Annunciation.  Adoration with guided meditation using Luke’s text on the Annunciation and interwoven with sacred songs was prepared by Collette.  To quote the women – “this time of prayer was ‘powerful’”.
The aim of the Day was to deliver a gentle introduction and insight into
  • The Global Mercy Story
  • The Mercy Charism and what that means
Input included
  • A Gathering Prayer
  • Presentations
  • Group discussions
  • Testimonies (this included a video from Addo)
  • Visit to Catherine’s room
  • A visual presentation of Global Mercy
  • Guided Meditation on the title ‘Come and See’

Adoration in the Oratory was extended throughout the day.  It was the role of the Sisters in the House to take turns in praying before the Blessed Sacrament for all participating in the Event.  The Sisters entered into the Spirit of Adoration with  prayerfulness and generosity.
The Day finished with the women filling in an Evaluation Sheet followed by Tea/Coffee and cakes and the start of departure.
The Institute Sisters have offered to prepare a follow up to this event.  Here in Handsworth we hope to reflect on ‘what next’ in order to keep alive what we have started and especially in preparation for the Popes theme for next year which is on vocational discernment.
